There are two techniques when creating dental veneers, it always depends on the manufacturer, in most cases it is the indirect technique (outside the mouth) and the direct technique (in the mouth).

1. Indirect Technique: Laboratory-Made Veneers

It is called indirect technique because the fabrication of the dental veneer is carried out outside the patient’s mouth, within dental laboratories.

The first step of this technique is based on planning, an essential part of any treatment, after scanning the patient’s mouth, a digital smile design will be made.

This design will be shown to the client, who will be able to see at that very moment the changes we want to create and the final result. It is the part where doctor and patient will decide if the final objective is the one desired by both

Before proceeding with the fabrication of the composite veneer, it must be assessed whether or not it is necessary to carve the tooth so that the veneer fits perfectly, thus avoiding sharp edges or excessively retentive areas.

All of this must be taken into account during the smile design process, as this will contribute to success in both the correct position of the veneer, the color, etc…

Do They Have to Carve My Tooth!!?

If you need to have your tooth modified or carved, don’t worry, in most cases this carving is minimal and practically imperceptible, it’s more like a slight polishing that will give it a bit of shape or rounding. In any case, we will explain the procedure to you exactly, which will be personalized in all cases.

This indirect technique process ends once these impressions are sent to the dental laboratory, where the composite veneers will be manufactured in a personalized way.

2. Direct Technique: Veneers Made in the Dental Clinic Itself

Unlike the previous technique, the direct process consists of creating and manufacturing the veneer directly in the patient’s mouth.

As always, our team of professionals will assess whether there is a need for carving or not. The big difference here is that the composite begins to adhere directly to the tooth, layer by layer, until the desired result is achieved. The good condition of the tooth is crucial in this technique.

Are Composite Dental Veneers Recommended?

As we have mentioned before, these veneers are the most common at the moment. They are performed very regularly in any dental clinic in Spain.
